Wireless Mesh for Video-Surveillance
End User: Campo dei Fiori Shopping Center, Gavirate, Varese - Italy
Manufacturer: Fluidmesh Networks, Inc.
The shopping center had previously relied on an analog CCTV surveillance system which had been installed when the center was originally built. Security managers found the old system delivered poor quality images recorded onto VHS tape, which made accessing recorded images time-consuming. In 2005, management opted to make the switch to IP-surveillance but was without an extensive cable infrastructure.
Fluidmesh Networks established a wireless network specifically designed for IP-surveillance use at the shopping center. Its innovative wireless transmitters offer significant advantages in terms of flexibility and ease of installation. Each new camera can be easily added to the network, without having to change the configuration of the rest of the system.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AT A GLANCE:
Fluidmesh Networks, together with Axis Communications, a global leader in network video, installed video servers, network cameras and wireless mesh transceivers at the Campo dei Fiori shopping center to upgrade it to wireless IP-surveillance. Centro Commerciale Campo dei Fiori, is in the town of Gavirate, ten kilometers from Varese, the center of the Varese province in northern Italy. The shopping center occupies 21,700 square meters of space accommodating one large 4,200 square meter hypermarket, 29 smaller stores, a large self-service restaurant and a 3,000 square meter sports center.
Fluidmesh wireless technology, because of its ability to identify the best path to use to transmit video data packages, is now enabling the center to optimize real-time video transmission. The output from each of the center's existing CCTV cameras was fed into three AXIS 241S (Single Channel) video servers and eight AXIS 240Q (Quad) video servers. The Fluidmesh Network wireless mesh device then transmits the feeds to a wireless gateway, but can also dynamically re-route data packets to other Fluidmesh devices to achieve real-time video transmission.
Campo dei Fiori has since added several more Axis network cameras tailored to their specific needs. Adding new network cameras to the Fluidmesh wireless device is simple and doesnít require reconfiguration of the overall installation.
Filippo Cordaro, security coordinator for the Centro Commerciale Campo dei Fiori, points out that The installed system is much more efficient that the previous one. For someone like me who has the task of supervising the security of customers in the shopping center, having high-definition images available in real time is a considerable advantage. We've been able to prevent theft both inside our shops and in the customer car park. With almost 80 cameras installed, we can say we have achieved practically total coverage of the shopping centre.
Andrea Sorri, country manager, Axis Communications Italy echoes The integration of the latest generation Fluidmesh and Axis products has resulted in an IP-surveillance system that would not have been possible to obtain with traditional analog solutions. We are delighted by the integration with the Fluidmesh products and are confident about a strong collaboration in the future.
